Zambian football icon Christopher Katongo joins PariPesa as brand ambassador in Zambia

The betting company Paripesa Zambia has announced the signing of an agreement with Christopher Katongo, former captain of the national team, who assumes the role of official brand ambassador in the Zambian market. The corresponding statement was published on PariPesa’s official channels.

About the new ambassador

Christopher Katongo is one of the most recognised figures in Zambian football. A former striker who earned more than 100 caps with the Zambia national team between 2003 and 2016, he played professionally for Brøndby IF in Denmark, Arminia Bielefeld in Germany, Skoda Xanthi in Greece and Henan Construction in China. The pinnacle of his career came in 2012, when he captained Zambia – known as the Chipolopolo – to their historic first Africa Cup of Nations title, defeating Côte d’Ivoire 8–7 on penalties in the final held in Libreville. He was named Player of the Tournament and shared the Golden Boot, and was subsequently voted BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2012, becoming the first winner of this award from Southern Africa.

Terms of the cooperation

According to PariPesa’s announcement, in his role as brand ambassador Christopher Katongo will take part in the company’s advertising campaigns, promotional activities and community initiatives focused on the Zambian sports audience. The specific financial terms of the contract and its duration have not been disclosed publicly. As an additional point of alignment between the parties, it is worth noting that PariPesa is framing the collaboration around a shared commitment to the development of grassroots football in Zambia – an area in which Katongo has been actively involved through his work as a coach and his public advocacy for youth academies.

Statements from both sides

In an official comment, a representative of PariPesa Africa noted that Christopher Katongo embodies the values the company seeks to associate with its brand – leadership, resilience and commitment to the next generation of African players – and that the trajectory of his career carries significant weight among sports fans across Zambia.

For his part, Katongo stated that he is proud to join a platform that shares his vision of football and that he intends to leverage this collaboration to support initiatives aimed at the development of young Zambian athletes.

Context

The announcement of the cooperation with Christopher Katongo continues a series of high-profile signings by PariPesa in the African market. Previously, the company unveiled a partnership with Ivorian football legend Yaya Touré, who was appointed official brand ambassador across the entire African continent, and signed an agreement with French club Olympique Lyonnais as its Official Betting Partner in Africa. PariPesa was named Best Sportsbook Operator at the SiGMA Africa Awards 2025 and is among the leading betting brands in several African markets, including Nigeria. Bringing on top-tier sports ambassadors of Katongo’s calibre in specific national markets is a common practice among betting operators in fast-growing markets – a category that includes most of the key African jurisdictions.

The first joint activations with the new ambassador – promotional campaigns, bonus programmes and content projects tailored to the Zambian audience – are expected to launch in the near future. Further details will be communicated through PariPesa’s official channels.
