Despite AFCON loss, Rabiu reaffirms $500,000 reward for Super Eagles

Billionaire industrialist and Chairman of BUA Group, AbdulSamad Rabiu, has reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the $500,000 cash pledge he made to the Super Eagles, despite the team’s exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Nigerian team bowed out of the tournament after losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco, following a goalless draw in their semi-final clash at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has dismissed as false reports alleging that the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, sponsored an adultery bill before the State House of Assembly.

Some online platforms had claimed that the Assembly passed a bill criminalising sexual relationships with married men, purportedly sponsored by the Deputy Governor. The state government, however, described the report as misleading and without factual basis.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, on Friday, January 9, 2026, arraigned Austrian national Kavlak Onal before Justice Yelim Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, for allegedly failing to declare large sums of foreign currency.

Onal was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) while preparing to travel on an Emirates Airline to Dubai.
