The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected vehicle thief and recovered a stolen minibus during an intelligence-led operation in Uyo.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the suspect, Aniette Etim, 36, of Ifa Atai Village in Uyo Local Government Area, was arrested on 5 July 2026 at about 5:30 pm.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected security impersonator and recovered assorted security uniforms, insignia and official accoutrements allegedly used to deceive members of the public.

The command said the suspect was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation on Atiku Abubakar Way, Uyo, on Sunday, 5 July 2026, at about 2:30 p.m.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the permanent forfeiture of one property and the interim forfeiture of four others linked to former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, who is serving a 75-year prison sentence for corruption.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, delivered the ruling on Thursday, holding that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had established that one of the properties was acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.

Akwa Ibom Police arrest suspected cultists, cable vandal

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Vikings Confraternity and a suspected cable vandal in separate intelligence-led operations targeting cultism, drug abuse and the vandalism of critical infrastructure.

The operations led to the recovery of suspected illicit drugs, vandalised electrical cables and tools believed to have been used in criminal activities.

In the first operation, police operatives raided a residential building off Abak Road in Uyo, identified through intelligence as a hideout for cult-related activities and illicit drug use.

NSCDC hands over 90,000 litres of seized ethanol to NAFDAC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has handed over 90,000 litres of suspected illegally sourced ethanol, two tanker trucks and six suspects to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation and regulatory action.

The handover took place on Thursday in Uyo after the NSCDC concluded its preliminary investigation into the seizure.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Usie Otukpa Osang before the Federal High Court in Abuja over an alleged investment fraud involving more than AUD$8.4 million and US$3.6 million.

Osang was arraigned on Monday before Justice Obiora Egwuatu on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and impersonation.
