Police nab three masquerades over alleged breach in Etinan

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three persons over their alleged involvement in violent and disorderly conduct linked to masquerade activities in the Etinan Local Government Area of the state.

According to the command, the arrests followed a distress call received at about 4:45 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, from an anonymous source, reporting a serious breach of public peace at Mbioto II Village, Etinan LGA.

Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, where two suspected masquerades and their leader were arrested.

EFCC presents First Witness in alleged N458m Lagos fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, presented its first prosecution witness, PW1, Emmanuel Adeyemi, Head of the Fraud Prevention and Investigation Department, Unity Bank, in the alleged N458 million fraud case involving one Ibrahim Habib Ibrahim before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, said Ibrahim is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering to the tune of N458,396,967.50 (Four Hundred and Fifty-Eight Million, Three Hundred and Ninety-Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Seven Naira, Fifty Kobo), to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has filed a six-count criminal charge against a social media user, God’sown Monday Udoito (female), also known as Princess God’sown Udoito, before the High Court of Akwa Ibom State sitting in Uyo.

The charges, which border on criminal defamation, threats, publication of false information and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, stem from a petition dated January 10, 2026.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal road traffic crash involving a vehicle conveying world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, and a stationary truck along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
