Aisha Muhammed: How my father’s lifestyle cost him his life

Aisha Muhammed, daughter of Nigeria’s late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, has said her father’s unassuming lifestyle and leadership approach made him vulnerable and ultimately contributed to his assassination.

Aisha, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on ARISE News, as she reflected on her father’s legacy 50 years after his death.

She said the late military leader’s commitment to accountability, responsibility and discipline remains central to his enduring influence in Nigeria’s political history.

Security alert: Police appeal to NLC to defer FCT protest

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has appealed to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to reschedule its planned protest slated for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, citing concerns over public safety and security.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command said intelligence reports indicated that some proscribed groups were planning to infiltrate and hijack the protest.

According to the statement, the police are aware of the planned peaceful protest by the NLC FCT Council scheduled to hold within the Federal Capital Territory.

Dickson: I advised Late Bayelsa Deputy Governor to join APC

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, has revealed that the late Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, remained loyal to him until his death, despite advice to align politically with Governor Douye Diri.

Dickson made the disclosure on Monday during a live interview aired on several radio stations across Bayelsa State. He said Ewhrudjakpo declined his suggestion to join Governor Diri in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the interest of political stability in the state.

According to Dickson, Ewhrudjakpo believed that joining the APC without him, his political mentor, would amount to betrayal, and therefore chose to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Police to arrest, prosecute one-way traffic offenders in A’Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has warned motorists and other road users to immediately stop driving against the flow of traffic, popularly known as one-way driving, or face arrest and prosecution.

It was learnt that the command is deeply worried by the growing incidence of traffic violations involving motorists, commercial drivers, tricyclists, motorcyclists and cyclists who deliberately flout traffic rules by driving against oncoming traffic, a practice it described as reckless and dangerous.

Police noted that one-way driving is a serious breach of traffic regulations and a leading cause of road crashes, resulting in avoidable injuries, loss of lives and extensive property damage.

Tantita builds, renovates 35 offices for Nigerian Army

Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) has constructed 13 new office blocks for the Nigerian Army’s 3 Battalion at Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The private petroleum pipeline surveillance firm also remodelled 22 existing offices within Sector 1 facilities at the same Effurun Barracks.

Inaugurating the twin projects, the Managing Director of Tantita, Chief Kestin Pondi, said sustainable security could not be delivered by a single institution working in isolation.

Bayelsa burial trip ends in fatal road crash

Tragedy struck on Friday when an 18-seater bus conveying passengers to the burial of the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor was involved in a fatal crash along the Toru-Orua axis of the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road.

Eyewitnesses initially claimed that many lives were lost in the accident, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

However, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefs Brisibe, who confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said only two victims died at the scene.
