Ensure credible, transparent elections, EFCC tells INEC

The Acting Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Oshodi Johnson, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to take the lead in tracking and curbing corrupt practices and negative influences during elections across Nigeria.

Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said Oshodi made the call in Uyo on Monday, November 3, 2025, when he received a delegation from the INEC office in the state, led by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr Obo Effanga.

According to him, “The responsibility on your shoulder is huge, and as we all serve in our different departments under the Federal Government, we must do so diligently, while you must take the lead in ensuring a free and fair election across the country.”

The International Press Centre (IPC) has urged the media to serve as both the mirror and mediator reflecting on public sentiment in a shared commitment to rebuilding trust in Nigeria’s electoral process.

Mrs Stella Nwofia, Programme Manager, IPC, gave the charge on Monday in her remarks at the presentation of the Report on Electoral Trust and Strategic MoU signing with NAWOJ/GOCOP in Abuja.

The event is organised by the IPC under the EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN II) Component 4: Support to Media.
