A’Ibom deepens humanitarian partnership with ActionAid, Clement Isong Foundation

The Akwa Ibom State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with ActionAid Nigeria and the Clement Isong Foundation to expand humanitarian interventions and improve the welfare of vulnerable residents in the state.

Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, gave the assurance while receiving the Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Dr Andrew Mamedu, his delegation and officials of the Clement Isong Foundation during a courtesy visit to the ministry’s conference room on Wednesday.

Lagos assembly backs state police, urges swift constitutional amendment

The Lagos State House of Assembly has endorsed the establishment of state police and called on the 36 State Houses of Assembly to expedite the consideration and approval of the Constitution Alteration Bill on state policing in the national interest.

The resolution followed the unanimous adoption of a motion titled “Support for the Establishment of State Police in Nigeria,” moved by the Majority Leader, Noheem Adams, during plenary on Wednesday.

Man found dead in Bayelsa guest house

A 40-year-old man has been found dead in a guest house in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following reports he had been with a woman who has since disappeared.

The deceased, identified only as Felix and understood to be from Cross River State, was discovered unresponsive at Diko Guest House on Azikoro Road, in the Ekeki district of the state capital, on Wednesday morning.

Residents and business owners along the old Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Road in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State have raised concerns over what they describe as a surge in suspected illegal oil bunkering activities, urging the authorities to intervene before the situation escalates.

The residents alleged that the area has witnessed an influx of trucks in recent weeks, with many reportedly arriving at night to load suspected illegally refined petroleum products.

EFCC arraigns former Port Harcourt Refinery MD over alleged N1.32bn money laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the former Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company Ltd (PHRC), Ahmed Adamu Dikko, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged laundering of more than ₦1.32 billion.

Dikko was arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Inyang Ekwo on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Court orders EFCC to pay Agunloye ₦10m for defamation

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama, Abuja, has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pay former Minister of Power, Dr Olu Agunloye, ₦10 million in damages for defamation over a publication linking him to an alleged $6 billion fraud.

In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, Justice Peter Kekemeke held that the EFCC’s publication on its website and X account, captioned “EFCC arraigns Agunloye over $6 billion fraud,” was false, defamatory and damaging to the former minister’s reputation.

Police recover stolen vehicle, arrest suspect

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected vehicle thief and recovered a stolen minibus during an intelligence-led operation in Uyo.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the suspect, Aniette Etim, 36, of Ifa Atai Village in Uyo Local Government Area, was arrested on 5 July 2026 at about 5:30 pm.

Vessel owners launch anti-piracy verification exercise

The Tugboat, Fuel Barges and Seagoing Vessel Association of Nigeria (TUBAVS) has unveiled a nationwide vessel verification and registration exercise aimed at supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to combat sea piracy, illegal oil bunkering and other maritime crimes.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, and signed by its Legal Adviser, Tonye D. Wilson, the association directed the immediate verification, registration and stricter regulation of all marine vessels and watercraft operating on Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.
