Lagos assembly backs state police, urges swift constitutional amendment

The Lagos State House of Assembly has endorsed the establishment of state police and called on the 36 State Houses of Assembly to expedite the consideration and approval of the Constitution Alteration Bill on state policing in the national interest.

The resolution followed the unanimous adoption of a motion titled “Support for the Establishment of State Police in Nigeria,” moved by the Majority Leader, Noheem Adams, during plenary on Wednesday.

Lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Finance on the Lagos State Wealth Fund Bill, 2025, with amendments during plenary.

The recommendations followed the presentation of the committee’s report by its Chairman, Obafemi Saheed.

Saheed presented the report on “A Bill for a Law to Establish the Lagos State Wealth Fund to Receive, Manage and Invest in a Diversified Portfolio of Medium and Long-Term Assets for the Benefit of Lagos State and Future Generations of Its Indigenes and Residents and for Connected Purposes.”

The 2026 fiscal proposal, encompassing N354.87 billion for current expenditure and N1.035 trillion for capital projects, was endorsed following the submission of the report by Dr Itorobong Etim, Chair of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
