The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has condemned the recent harassment of journalists while carrying out their lawful duties within court premises, insisting that media practitioners must be allowed to perform their constitutional responsibilities without intimidation, obstruction or undue interference.

The union called on relevant authorities to uphold press freedom and guarantee the safety and protection of journalists at all times.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed grave concern and deep disappointment over the “formal notice” issued by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on April 17, 2026.

The union described the directive—warning broadcasters to ensure “strict and uncompromised compliance” in the face of alleged breaches of professionalism—as a veiled attempt to stifle the media and institutionalise censorship.
