On 24 February 2026, at about 3:00 pm, operatives on routine patrol in Nsit Atai Local Government Area intercepted a motorcycle carrying two passengers for a stop-and-search operation.

DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, said upon being directed to stop, one of the passengers, who had a black handbag strapped around his neck, suddenly alighted and fled in an attempt to evade arrest.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its intelligence-driven crackdown on dealers of Indian hemp and other illicit substances, leading to multiple arrests and the recovery of significant quantities of suspected banned drugs during coordinated raids on identified flashpoints.

The operations were strategically planned and executed simultaneously in known criminal hideouts based on actionable intelligence. Several suspects are currently in custody and will be charged upon the conclusion of investigations.

Following the report, a comprehensive investigation was launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

After several months of sustained intelligence gathering and investigation, operatives of the command on Friday, February 6, 2026, around 12:00 noon, arrested one Emmanuel Silas (male) in connection with the alleged offence.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in the investigation of an armed robbery, criminal conspiracy and alleged juju-related case reported in the Uyo metropolis.

According to the command, the incident was reported through a petition dated November 20, 2025. The complainant stated that on November 19, 2025, while waiting along Uruan Street, Uyo, to board a commercial vehicle, a saloon car stopped and offered her a ride. Unbeknownst to her, the occupants were members of a criminal syndicate.

After driving for some distance, the suspects diverted from the intended route, produced a firearm and forcefully robbed the victim of her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card. She was compelled at gunpoint to reveal her Personal Identification Number (PIN).
