Akwa Ibom, Rivers police strengthen border security

The Commissioners of Police for Akwa Ibom and Rivers states have agreed to strengthen cross-border security collaboration through enhanced intelligence sharing, joint operations and coordinated crime-fighting strategies to tackle criminal activities along their shared boundary.

The resolution was reached on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, during a high-level strategic security meeting between the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Baba Mohammed Azare and his Rivers State counterpart, Olugbenga Adepoju, at the common boundary between the two states.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the activation of comprehensive security measures across the state to prevent and combat violent crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said the move aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police and aims to strengthen public safety.

As part of the strategy, the command has intensified intelligence-led policing, increased patrols, and deployed personnel strategically across all local government areas.
