Shell Companies in Nigeria awarded contracts worth $518 million to 123 indigenous companies in 2025, significantly reinforcing its commitment to growing local content in the nation’s oil and gas sector.
The company’s Communications Manager, Mrs Gladys Afam-Anadu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, detailing the extensive engagement of local firms across Shell’s operations and value chain over the past year.
The Federal High Court in Yenagoa on Wednesday adjourned a suit challenging Shell’s divestment from onshore assets to 6 May, following the absence of legal representatives from the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The case centres on Shell UK PLC’s divestment of onshore and shallow-water assets previously operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC). SPDC has, however, contested the court’s jurisdiction in the matter.

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) has challenged the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa in a suit contesting Shell UK PLC’s divestment from its onshore and shallow-water oil and gas assets.
The plaintiffs allege that the divestment did not comply with the guidelines stipulated in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
The suit was filed by the traditional ruler of Ekpetiama Kingdom in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, King Bubaraiye Dakolo. He is also seeking redress and environmental remediation over what he described as 40 years of cumulative pollution in his domain.
