Court remands suspect in Bayelsa judge’s kidnap case

A Bayelsa State High Court has remanded a 39-year-old man, Ogbonna-Otu Emizibo Dennis, popularly known as “Ogbono”, in prison custody over the alleged abduction of Justice E.G. Omukoro and adjourned the case until 14 July for further hearing.

Dennis was arraigned before Justice I. Eradiri of High Court 4 in Yenagoa on four counts bordering in conspiracy to commit a felony, kidnapping, conspiracy to inflict grievous bodily harm and attempted murder.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Akwa Ibom Police arrest suspected cultists, cable vandal

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Vikings Confraternity and a suspected cable vandal in separate intelligence-led operations targeting cultism, drug abuse and the vandalism of critical infrastructure.

The operations led to the recovery of suspected illicit drugs, vandalised electrical cables and tools believed to have been used in criminal activities.

In the first operation, police operatives raided a residential building off Abak Road in Uyo, identified through intelligence as a hideout for cult-related activities and illicit drug use.

Diri’s aide urges FG to embrace community-based security

The Technical Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Communication and Strategy, High Chief Abednego Don Evarada, has called on the Federal Government to adopt a community-based security model to address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Evarada said stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities would enhance intelligence gathering and improve efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

NSCDC hands over 90,000 litres of seized ethanol to NAFDAC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has handed over 90,000 litres of suspected illegally sourced ethanol, two tanker trucks and six suspects to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation and regulatory action.

The handover took place on Thursday in Uyo after the NSCDC concluded its preliminary investigation into the seizure.

Parents demand answers over delayed civil service recruitment

The National Association of Concerned Parents (NACP) has called on the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) to explain the prolonged delay in concluding its recruitment exercise, saying thousands of young Nigerians have been left in uncertainty for an extended period.

Police nab wanted murder suspect, smash robbery gang

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded breakthroughs in its crackdown on violent crime, arresting a murder suspect who had been on the run for nearly six months and dismantling a suspected armed robbery syndicate operating in Ibiono Ibom and Itu Local Government Areas.

The operations also led to the recovery of a locally made Dane gun allegedly used in the murder, a single-barrel gun, eight live cartridges and a suspected stolen motorcycle.
