The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested suspected vandals involved in the looting and theft of items from an accidented truck along the Calabar–Itu Highway.

On 10 May 2026, at about 22:00 hours, operatives of the command acted swiftly on credible intelligence provided by a tricycle operator regarding the activities of criminal elements vandalising and stealing from a truck that had fallen into a valley at Afaha along the Calabar–Itu Highway.

A prosecution witness on Friday told the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, how a property at No. 35 Danube Street, Maitama, was allegedly purchased for the naira equivalent of ₦950 million, paid in United States dollars, in the ongoing trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello.

The witness, PW15, Ramalan Abdullahi, a legal practitioner with the Federal Capital Development Authority, testified before Justice Maryanne Anineh that he was contacted in January 2022 by a friend who requested that he conduct due diligence on the property after agents introduced it for sale.

Fresh OML 29 spill sparks outrage in Nembe

Communities in Okpoama and Ikensi in Brass and Nembe Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State have raised fresh concerns over an underwater crude oil pipeline leak at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 29, warning of worsening environmental pollution and threats to livelihoods.
Residents reportedly discovered the leak near Ikensi community at about 6:45am on Thursday after crude oil was seen discharging into surrounding waterways.

Suspected hoodlums fled into the forest on sighting advancing operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) during an intelligence-led tactical raid on their hideout along Ikot Abasi Road in Abak, Akwa Ibom State.
The raid, carried out at about 3:30pm on 7 May 2026, targeted a forest camp identified by police as a notorious gathering point for suspected criminals allegedly involved in hard drug abuse and planning attacks on unsuspecting residents and members of the public.

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an interim injunction restraining the Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders (CITRE), the Ijaw National Congress (INC) President, and the Chairman of the Electoral Committee from inaugurating, swearing in, or presenting any individuals as officers of the INC.

The ruling follows the deepening leadership crisis within the INC after the controversial National Executive Council election held on 13 April, which CITRE, regarded as the apex judicial authority of the congress, declared null and void over alleged constitutional breaches.
