CSOs back Akwa Ibom tax reform bill, seek key amendments

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Akwa Ibom State have endorsed the proposed Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service Bill but urged the State House of Assembly to amend some provisions to strengthen transparency, institutional independence and the protection of taxpayers’ rights.

The groups made the call after participating in a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Finance to consider the proposed legislation titled, “A Bill for a Law to Establish the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service for Efficient Administration and Collection of Internally Generated Revenue and for Matters Connected Therewith.”

Group unveils roadmap for ocean jobs, urges Tinubu to establish coast guard

The Provisional Committee for the Proposed Nigerian Coast Guard (PC-NCG) has unveiled a roadmap aimed at creating five million ocean-based jobs by 2035, while urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish a Nigerian Coast Guard as a critical institution for achieving the country’s blue economy ambitions.

The committee conveyed its proposals in an open letter to the President following Nigeria’s commitments at the 11th Our Ocean Conference (OOC11) held in Mombasa, Kenya.

Alleged N740m investment scam: How couple defrauded me – Witness

The First Prosecution Witness, PW1, Chinyere Okoroafor, in the trial of the Chief Executive Officer of Onome Global Market Resources Limited and Lexicon Multi-concept Media Limited, Osabohein Alex Ologbose and his wife, Hope Onome Oghelemu, before Justice Ekerete Akpan of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, June 22, 2026, narrated how she was defrauded by the couple in an investment scam.

The defendants, alongside their two companies, Onome Global Market Resources Limited and Lexicon Multi-concept Media Limited are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a seven-count charge, bordering on obtaining by false pretence, conversion of funds and money laundering to the tune of N740 million (Seven Hundred and Forty Million Naira), contrary to Section 18(2)(b) of the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022 and punishment under Section 18(4) of the same Act.

Alleged N2.2b fraud: Ngige’ ministry took over NSITF’s procurement department’s functions – Witnesses

The trial of the former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, continued on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, before Justice M.A. Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory, High Court, Gwarinpa, Abuja, with two prosecution witnesses affirming that the defendant transferred the functions of the procurement department of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund NSITF to his ministry.

Ngige is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an eight-count charge, bordering on abuse of office and fraudulent contract award to the tune of N2,261,722,535.84 (Two billion, Two Hundred and Sixty-one Million, Seven Hundred and Twenty-two Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-five naira, Eighty-four kobo).

Court reserves ruling on Emefiele’s statements

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has reserved ruling until July 9, 2026, on the admissibility of extra-judicial statements allegedly made by former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in his ongoing $4.5 billion fraud trial.

Emefiele is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 19 counts bordering on receiving gratification and making corrupt demands while serving as CBN governor.

Ogboru confident of 2027 Delta victory

Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Delta State election, has expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious, insisting that the poll will be won “fairly and squarely”.
