₦110.4bn fraud trial: Witness details Maitama deal

A prosecution witness on Friday told the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, how a property at No. 35 Danube Street, Maitama, was allegedly purchased for the naira equivalent of ₦950 million, paid in United States dollars, in the ongoing trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello.

The witness, PW15, Ramalan Abdullahi, a legal practitioner with the Federal Capital Development Authority, testified before Justice Maryanne Anineh that he was contacted in January 2022 by a friend who requested that he conduct due diligence on the property after agents introduced it for sale.

Fresh OML 29 spill sparks outrage in Nembe

Communities in Okpoama and Ikensi in Brass and Nembe Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State have raised fresh concerns over an underwater crude oil pipeline leak at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 29, warning of worsening environmental pollution and threats to livelihoods.
Residents reportedly discovered the leak near Ikensi community at about 6:45am on Thursday after crude oil was seen discharging into surrounding waterways.

A’Ibom hoodlums flee as police raid hideout

Suspected hoodlums fled into the forest on sighting advancing operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) during an intelligence-led tactical raid on their hideout along Ikot Abasi Road in Abak, Akwa Ibom State.
The raid, carried out at about 3:30pm on 7 May 2026, targeted a forest camp identified by police as a notorious gathering point for suspected criminals allegedly involved in hard drug abuse and planning attacks on unsuspecting residents and members of the public.

Court halts INC inauguration amid leadership crisis

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an interim injunction restraining the Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders (CITRE), the Ijaw National Congress (INC) President, and the Chairman of the Electoral Committee from inaugurating, swearing in, or presenting any individuals as officers of the INC.

The ruling follows the deepening leadership crisis within the INC after the controversial National Executive Council election held on 13 April, which CITRE, regarded as the apex judicial authority of the congress, declared null and void over alleged constitutional breaches.

Court convicts Saleh Mamman over N33.8bn fraud

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, convicted a former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, on 12 counts of money laundering amounting to N33.8 billion.

The former minister, who was absent from court, was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for money laundering to the tune of N33,804,830,503,73 (Thirty-Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Four Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Five Hundred and Three Naira, Seventy-Three Kobo).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, arraigned Metro Digital Limited before Justice A.T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on an amended four-count charge bordering on cybercrime and the alleged unlawful interception and rebroadcast of Multichoice Nigeria Limited content.

Gombe court jails magistrate over N1m bribery case

Justice H.H. Kereng of the Gombe State High Court has convicted and sentenced Magistrate Muhammad Suleiman Kumo to two years and six months’ imprisonment for bribery.

Kumo was initially arraigned on 3 December 2025 by the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on three counts of bribery.

EFCC arraigns man over alleged N20m cattle scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 5 May 2026 arraigned Dr Andefiki Markus before Justice H.H. Kereng of the Gombe State High Court sitting in Gombe, Gombe State, over an alleged N20 million cattle investment fraud.

Markus was arraigned by the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on two counts bordering on obtaining by false pretence.
